Child Health

Graham County Department of Public Health plays a key role in the health maintenance of children in our community. A comprehensive child health program is provided which consists of three key functions in serving children and their families:

  • Anticipatory guidance
  • Periodic screening
  • Prevention of illness

The population served is children from birth to age 21 years of age. Graham County Department of Public Health child health staff follow the Health Check screening schedule.

Care Coordination for Children

(Medicaid & other eligible children)
A case management program for high risk children, birth up to age five, that provides developmental screening, immunizations, appropriate medical referrals, comprehensive family assessments and educational services.  The overall goal of this program is early identification of medical and developmental problems so that the appropriate referrals and early interventions can be initiated and these children will attain their optimal level of development.  This program also identifies social, economic and environmental needs of the family and assists the family in locating the resources to meet these needs.

Child Care Notice

Whooping cough (pertussis) is serious at any age, but is life-threatening to newborns and infants who have not completed the series of vaccinations that would protect them from whooping cough. Each year hundreds of infants are hospitalized for whooping cough.Some infants die from it.
